Fourth International Lecture by Dr. Najafali Mirzaei: The Integrous Family and the Necessities of Monotheistic Epistemic Reformation; A Quranic Approach
The first international lecture of the pre-con events of the international conference on Imam Reza and Interreligious Dialogue was held online on December 13, 2023. At this session, Dr. Najafali Mirzaei (Faculty Member, Al-Mustafa International University) delivered his speech under the title “The Integrous Family and the Necessities of Monotheistic Epistemic Reformation; A Quranic Approach”.
This study is built on several principles, among them the belief that the fates of civilizations in their broadest scope and their destinies are connected to the infrastructure of human formation in terms of spirit, soul, and other forces within; because the human being is considered the basic cell of the social structure, and the family represents the fundamental building block of the Ummah-civilization. It also believes that the family today, due to the profound transformations and widespread contradictions in philosophical systems and their foundational concepts, has undergone severe shocks; which have diminished its effectiveness in human building, and placed the future of the Ummah before a difficult test and challenge. Perhaps one of the biggest reasons for this dangerous turn in the pathways of the family is that the historical functions and missions of the family have completely vanished, after the family delegated its fundamental roles to state institutions and education/upbringing no longer remained at the center of its primary tasks and the basis of the family's purpose map. This paper seeks to offer a modern interpretation of Quranic integrity (ʾIstiqāmah) as an existential description of phenomena committed to the Quranic method and its application to the reality of the family to face the crisis of family immunity against contemporary challenges. The conflict of wills, social models, and value systems that have submerged the human personality in the logic of family relationships in a sea of psychological and cognitive contradictions has added absurdity and a sense of human misery to life as a whole. Contemplation of the Quranic verses regarding the meaning of integrity reveals an astonishing truth about the data of integrity and gives the mind full confidence that the integrity in Surah Al-Fatiha, which is the mother of Quranic knowledge, transformed into the focal point of the overall legal and behavioral Quranic meaning and branched out from it all that relates to the divine commands and prohibitions and the Quranic value logic. Integrity here describes the actual ability of the family and the human within it to stand firm, resist, and maintain practical integrity in the face of all theoretical and practical risks targeting it. Therefore, it is a research paper aimed at delving into posing the problem with a realistic social and descriptive-analytical methodology, leading to presenting the idea of family integrity with a cosmic vision and based on Quranic knowledge.
